Matthew 26:17-30
In Egypt God commanded the
first and greatest feast of
Passover. With this feast we
have a symbolism that is
tangible to daily life. For
the Hebrew children in
bondage it was the guarantee
of their very survival in
turning aside the wrath of
God upon the first born of
Egypt. The blood on the
doorposts was the only
protection for them
then even as the blood of
the Lamb of God now is for
all who hope in His great
salvation. There are other
feasts that God commanded
His people to observe and
they all are significant.
But Passover for the
Jews and for Christians,
Easter and the regular
taking of communion is the
one of greatest importance.
For both faiths it truly
does 'establish' the
covenants. Without it, all
the others are rendered
empty and meaningless.
Feasting is also a way of
bringing God's people
together, out of the
mediocrity of their
own smaller life settings
into a larger, broader place
of focusing on God and His
ways.
It is a coming together to
table, to dine, to share and
to celebrate the wonder of
all of Gods great provision
for His children. It is
essential ritual that
reminds us of who we are and
what we have...in Him.
